One Week in San Jose Del Cabo Itinerary

San Jose del Cabo is the quieter neighbor of Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas is where I always went to spring break but San Jose del Cabo is mainly timeshares and resorts. I think the average age at the pool of our timeshare was well above 55. There was daily water aerobics at noon, bingo at 2pm, and happy hour started at 3pm. This did make for a relaxing vacation when poolside. When we wanted to get out, Uber was easy and cheap. We could go all the way to Cabo San Lucas, a 30 minute drive, for $20. Given I’m no longer 20 and partying in college, San Jose del Cabo is the perfect in between for me from being in the thick of the craziness in Cabo San Lucas and having a relaxing vacation. Your close enough to enjoy the partying but far enough to enjoy the quiet.

So what to do with a 1 week vacation? Here’s my itinerary:

Day 1

Your first day in Cabo is used to get situated. Grab a taxi and a beer to get to your resort. Once you check in and get settled, go do a store run. You’ll want water and beer at a minimum. If you have a kitchen I’d get snacks, breakfast, and one or two dinners. Remember to brush your teeth with the bottled water and do not drink out of the faucet. On the note of getting sick, don’t order oysters or seafood at that when you go out….trust me on this one, stayed up all night puking/pooping my brains out in the toilet while my boyfriend was puking in the shower because the toilet was occupado…we got real close over this vacation! Anywho, after getting the errands out of the way, get dinner and some drinks. Since you have all the energy and excitement of first night of vacation, I’d use this night to make the trek to Cabo San Lucas for the bars. Squid roe is the best!

Day 2

The second day, eat breakfast at home and sleep in before going to a club named Omnia. It is the same Omnia as the one in Vegas and San Diego. Luckily it is in San Jose del Cabo and really close by! It has a nice pool and day beds next to the pool. We haggled with Omnia and got a day bed for $300 when they normally went for $600. The $300 was just a minimum spend so we were able to buy alcohol which we would have spent anyways! Omnia is going to be the only expensive place you go to all week. The afternoon started out slow but got busy by evening time with booty shaking contests! Drunk stumble to go get dinner after your done getting your fix in by the pool. Go to bed early after a long day of beer in Mexico (hello Kenny fans) and a lot of sunshine.

Day 3

I got food poisoning the night before on my trip so this day ended up being a relax by the pool day. It was a good break as you will have spent a lot of time partying at this point. The pool was a good recovery day while still working on my tan. If you are not feeling for a slow down and want to do something more adventurous, I’d go scuba diving in the morning and spend the afternoon by the pool!

Day 4

This was another chill day but this time go find a really cool beach. I suggest Chileno beach in between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. This was my favorite day. I LOVED this beach. It is one of the only beaches you can snorkel right off of the beach from and the water is such a pretty blue. There were no vendors either. We just stuffed some beer and towels in backpacks and spent the day here. I took my snorkel gear out and saw some cool schools of fishes. There’s also a rock area with tons of little crabs and other animals! This really reminded me more of a day in the Caribbean than Mexico and I loved it. Get dinner in downtown San Jose del Cabo and check out what’s called the artsy downtown area. I found it to be only a few blocks and took 5 minutes, a little bit of a let down, but glad I walked through it nonetheless. If you still have the energy after another long day in the sun, and hopefully no sunburn at this point, go out to the bars again in Cabo San Lucas after two restful days in the sun.

Day 5

It’s time for a boat cruise! Take a snorkel trip and boat ride on Cabo’s jungle cruise! We actually got a super awesome boat for this with fish netting and lounge pads to lay on. Looked kind of intimidating at first but it ended up being by far the best seat in the house. The snorkeling was meh, not as good as Chileno beach, but still a good stop. Of course there is unlimited booze on the boat as well! Ah it is such a day of contentment and bliss out on the water. After the snorkel trip / booze cruise, we made our way to Mango Deck, which was a popular spot during spring break. Mango Deck is a great people watching spot. They hold a bunch of contests like what girl can do the most push ups. They let people bet on it and cheer. It was interesting for sure!! They also have bomb nachos. Theres good small authentic taco shops nearby as well.

Day 6

It’s time for deep sea fishing!!!! Cabo is world famous for the big game fishing. It’s a super exciting thing to try once. Unfortunately it was really hard as well. The captain didn’t speak great English and I had a really hard time understanding if he wanted us to hook the fish or let the line out. Most of the time we fumbled around trying to understand his directions and by that time we lost the fish. If he only had 2 poles out at once he always handed them to the boys as well, but hey this girl wants to fish! The morning was nice, at least it included a boat trip even if we caught no fish, but the afternoon wind picked up. Soon, waves were crashing over our boat and I was clinging to the cooler I was sitting on that was being dragged around the boat in the surf. I looked like a wet dog, getting drenched with every wave and the wind cooled me off to the point of shivering. The captain even had me drive at points in these conditions, I suppose it is still Mexico after all. When we got back to shore, I saw a big marlin that someone had caught. Jealous! After getting up really early and an eventful end to the fishing trip, it was nice to spend the last afternoon next to the pool and relaxing.

Day 7

If you don’t have an early flight, get as much sun as you can before you go. Time to go back home and daydream about 80s and Coronas.

Overall a great trip! It was still Mexico which isn’t my favorite place in comparison to Hawaii and the Caribbean, but it is only a 2 hour flight from LA and does a good mix of relaxing and partying. I still got food poisoning and it’s a lot of drinking all week. If I go back to Mexico soon, I think it will be time for me to see some new territory and hit the Caribbean side of Mexico.

Either way though, this is a VERY solid itinerary and I wouldn’t change a thing we did all week! I hope you get as much enjoyment from this itinerary as I did! Have fun!
